Removing component protection requires specialized diagnostic tools and access to Volkswagen Group servers. The most common method used by professionals is through ODIS Online.
ODIS stands for Offboard Diagnostic Information System and is the official diagnostic software used by Volkswagen Group dealerships. When connected to manufacturer servers, the system allows technicians to perform advanced operations such as module authentication, software updates, and component protection removal.
The process begins by connecting a diagnostic interface to the vehicle’s OBD port. The technician then launches the ODIS software and establishes communication with the vehicle’s control units.
Once the vehicle is identified, the technician logs into the Volkswagen online system. This login allows ODIS to communicate with the FAZIT servers that store vehicle configuration data.

During the component protection removal process the system verifies several pieces of information including:
- vehicle VIN
- module identification data
- security authentication information
If everything matches correctly, the server authorizes the module and updates the vehicle configuration.
After the procedure is completed, the module becomes fully functional. Features that were previously disabled due to component protection will begin working again.
The entire process usually takes between 10 and 30 minutes depending on the module type and internet connection speed.
Because access to Volkswagen servers is required, component protection removal cannot normally be performed using standard diagnostic tools like VCDS or OBDeleven.menaeos.
